Guitarist Tom Dempsey’s reputation in the New York jazz scene for hard swinging sophistication and pure musicality have made him a distinct voice in the New York Jazz Scene. In recent years Tom has performed and/or recorded with a virtual "Who’s Who" of world renowned jazz musicians including: Wynton Marsalis, Paquito D’Rivera, Jim Hall, John Abercrombie, John Scofield, Tal Farlow, Buddy Montgomery, George Coleman, Kenny Barron, Roy Haynes, Jack McDuff, Bobby McFerrin, Gerald Wilson, Mel Torme, Richard Wyands, Muhal Richard Abrams, and Dave Brubeck.  He has recorded six CDs as a leader: "Saucy" (Planet Arts), "Beautiful Friendship" (Planet Arts), "What’s Going On" (City Tone Records), "Perspectives" (Imaginary Records), "Blues In The Slope" (Igmod Records) and "If Only We Knew" (Self Release).  Tom has also recorded as a sideman on many recordings.  Since 1992, Tom has been performing as a leader and a sideman at some of the top jazz venues throughout the world including the JVC Jazz Festival, Jazz at Lincoln Center, San Francisco Jazz Festival, The Blue Note, Yoshi’s, Smalls and Smoke

Dempsey has worked extensively with tap dancing virtuoso Savion Glover in Bring in ‘da Noise, Bring in ‘da Funk as well as in live concerts.  He has made numerous appearances on New York radio and television including performances on The Rosie O’Donnell Show and the HBO series Sex and the City. Tom is an Artist Endorsee for Thomastik-Infeld Strings.

Tom’s deep commitment to education has made him a highly sought after educator and clinician.  In recent years he has been teaching at Jazz at Lincoln Center, SUNY New Paltz, Rutgers University, New York Jazz Academy and as Artistic Director of the Jazz Summit at the National Guitar Workshop.  He also served as the Director of Music for the National Guitar Workshop until 2012.  Currently Tom is an Assistant Professor of Music at LaGuardia Community College where he is also designing the college's music major.  His books Jazz Eras for Guitar, Easy Soloing for Jazz Guitar, Sight-Reading for the Contemporary Guitarist and Classic Jazz Styles for Guitar are available through Alfred Music and Workshop Arts.  Dempsey has also recorded over 170 online lessons for WorkshopLive.com covering jazz guitar performance, repertoire development and music theory.  He also recently recorded two new videos for TrueFire that are slated to be released in early 2013. 

Tom received his Bachelor of Music Degree in Jazz Studies from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University in May 1991. In May 1996, he acquired his Masters Degree in Jazz/Commercial Music at Manhattan School of Music.

Matt Smith is an Austin-based musician, author, teacher, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. Matt has been teaching internationally for 33 years and was a senior faculty member at the National Guitar Workshop. He is currently Music and Studio Director at Phoenix House in Austin, Texas. Matt was the international clinician for Ovation, Hamer, and Takamine guitars for 25 years, performing concerts and master classes across the US, Canada, and Europe.

"Very few guitarists are able to jump styles like Matt. Blues, jazz, country, funk, folk – you name it. Matt not only gets the notes right, but gets his head right as well. It’s rare to hear a player who is so good at so many things. That ability has made Matt one of the busiest players in New York."

Matt has played the Blue Note as well as Carnegie Hall, Central Park Summerstage, and Eisenhower Park with the NY Pops Orchestra. He’s performed with, opened for, or recorded with B.B. King, Sheryl Crow, Trey Anastasio, Al DiMeola, Greg Allman, Los Lobos, Johnny Winter, Buddy Guy, Adrian Legg, Ed Gerhard, Portishead, and many others

A born troubadour, Matt has performed at numerous international guitar festivals, including the Bath International Guitar Festival and the Montreal Guitar Festival. He also does annual tours in the UK, Germany, Italy, France, and Switzerland. Matt received a standing ovation at the 2007 and 2009 Acoustic Café at the NAMM show.

Allison has coordinated and facilitated educational events nationwide over the last 15 years.  She is committed to the self-improvement of others, and brings considerable energy and enthusiasm to every endeavor. 

Believing in the power of experiential learning,  Allison has run workshops and events for corporations including such topics as Customer Service, Communications Skills, Teambuilding, Time Management, Business Writing, Career Transitions, and other custom programs including challenge course and sailing adventures.  With graduate degrees in both Organizational Development and Counseling Psychology, she has been an adjunct instructor and guest lecturer of psychology at such places as the University of Hartford, UConn, and Eastern Connecticut State University where she has taught an array of classes including Workplace Psychology, Theories of Personality, Group Dynamics, Learning Theories, Cognition, and Developmental Psychology.  Additionally, Allison is qualified in the use of the DiSC and Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and has successfully used this tool for seminars in diversity, understanding personality, and career development.  She is also a certified Holistic Health Coach and Lifestyle Educator specializing in personal wellness and striving for work/life balance.

Her hobbies include enjoying nature and being outdoors, hiking, racing sailboats, playing guitar, painting murals, knitting, traveling and having inspiring conversations with interesting people.
